The View - May 2017

Message from the CEO

The Nashville Predators are in the Stanley Cup Finals! What does that have to do with Ridgeview? Nothing really, other than I am excited about watching a Tennessee team compete at the national level and I’m excited about the Customer Centricity Initiative that Ridgeview is embarking on.

Before you stop reading, I’d like to share a couple of highlights about why Ridgeview is committed to improving customer service. A couple of the motives for doing this might surprise you. Obviously, one objective is to ensure that we are providing the highest quality care possible to our clients, but an equally important objective is to provide a better place for our direct patient care staff to do what they do best, and the third objective/motivation is to provide an awesome workplace for you.

Please pardon the cliché when I say that in order to go from “Good To Great” in these areas we will be using a multi-pronged approach which will include the following:

  • Implementation of recommendations from the Innovation in Practice Project.
  • Implementation of concepts from the Studer Model.
  • Implementation of recommendations based on feedback from a change project team, clients, staff, board members, referral sources, and the community.

I know all this sounds somewhat vague and theoretical at this point, but I promise…not only will you be getting detailed information over the course of the next year, but you will also be part of shaping and sustaining our culture here at Ridgeview. Specifically, cultivating a culture which will keep us connected to our purpose and mission, and allows us to continue to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve. Thank you for all you do for Ridgeview! Brian

Extra Mile Award!

Congratulations to Ashley Peery - aka, The Juggler! Much deserved recognition as COO, Nathan Zeiger, presents Ashley Peery with the Extra Mile Award. Thanks for being a good sport by entertaining us with your juggling skills! The Mobile Crisis Team has to be agile, responsive, and a steady presence in the midst of acute, psychiatric crises - truly, juggling a lot of complex needs. Ashley demonstrates the One Ridgeview philosophy through his consistent leadership, teamwork, and compassion for those we serve.

Ridgeview welcomes Oak Ridge Kiwanis

Oak Ridge Kiwanis held their monthly meeting at Ridgeview on May 9 to learn more about our mission, programs, and services. Kiwanis President, Terry Peek, and founding member, Terrell Horne, are pictured with Michael Yates. The Kiwanis slogan is "serving the children of the world."

3rd ANNUAL RIDE FOR HOPE

Ridgeview, along with its many public and private partners, hosted the 3rd Annual Ride for Hope in celebration of national mental health awareness month. The weather compelled the Planning Committee to improvise, adapt, and overcome - which they did with flying colors! We again celebrated alongside fourteen vendors. This year's event included visits to Anderson County Courthouse and Robertsville Middle School, where we have STAR program services. In addition, the event added the introduction of a CIT Officer of the Year, which brought a big presence of ORPD to the event. We're grateful for local musical guest, Sydney Buckner, who once again delighted the audience with her guitar play and singing.

Riders visit Robertsville Middle School and celebrate by passing out green "Ride for Hope" wristbands to the students. Teachers, administrators, and our very own STAR Therapist, Michelle Jones, join together for a group photo before resuming the final 3 miles to Ridgeview.

Riders were welcomed home by a packed, standing-room-only crowd in the Multi-purpose Room. We were honored to hear opening remarks from TDMHSAS Commissioner Marie Williams.

2017 Landlord Summit for Anderson County hosted by the TN Valley Continuum of Care

Thanks to Allison Schipp, Sharon Stratton, and Mildred Beasley (left to right), Ridgeview was well represented at the 2017 Landlord Summit on May 19th.

The TN Valley Continuum of Care hosted a free landlord training in Anderson County to provide information on free home upgrading, the housing choice voucher program, case management, and free legal information in an effort to promote partnership between landlords and agencies working with homelessness.

Chasing the Dragon at Jefferson Middle School

Oak Ridge City Schools hosted “Chasing the Dragon” at Jefferson Middle School to discuss the opioid epidemic in the community. Mr. Neil Morgenstern, Appalachia HIDTA, led a presentation of the documentary, "Chasing the Dragon," followed by a panel discussion that included: Stephanie Strutner (ASAP), Captain Charlie Elliott (ORFD), Sergeant Jeremy Huddleston (ORPD), Neil Morgenstern, and Michael Yates (Ridgeview).

The following agencies also set up vendor tables and made themselves available to discuss their respective programs and services: Oak Ridge Police Department, Oak Ridge Fire Department, ASAP of Anderson County, Mimi’s Place, Tennessee Overdose Prevention. and Ridgeview.

Michael Yates and Amy Senk couldn't help but capture the moment!
