Infant Mental Health Conference by Melanie O'Dowd

August 21-22, 2017 Melanie O’Dowd with Project BASIC and Penny Wood with the Mist Program attended the Second Annual BUILDING BLOCKS for Infant Mental Health Conference in Franklin TN.

The 2 day conference included 2 general sessions to open and close the event, 4 break out session opportunities, and a SOLAR ECLIPSE viewing during our networking luncheon. Glasses provided!

The break out sessions and general sessions focused on a variety of issues currently in Infant Mental Health ranging from ACEs, Engaging Families, Maternal Depression, Practical Strategies, Educating others, Empowering Moms, Reflective Counseling, and Building a Foundation for Future Mental Health.

Not only was the conference fun and informational, but we were surrounded by cemeteries at every turn and even watched the Eclipse from a small 1800’s cemetery near the conference.

Legislative advocacy

Brian Buuck and Michael Yates met with Representative John Ragan and Lt. Gov. Randy McNally as part of TAMHO's Legislative Committee. The meeting provided an opportunity to thank each for their leadership and to advocate for the most pressing needs of the people we serve.
